
2022 Latinx Heritage Month keynote to feature award-winning spoken word poet

The 91社区 Multicultural Center and the Activities Programming Board will present 鈥淓mbracing Our Identity, Culture & History鈥 by Carlos Andr茅s G贸mez from 6 to 8 p.m. October 19 in Carter Hall, located in University Center West. This event will honor Latinx Heritage Month and is open to the public at no charge.听
G贸mez is a Colombian American poet, speaker, actor and equity and inclusion strategist from New York City. He is the author of Fractures; winner of the Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry, Hijito; winner of the Broken River Prize; and a number one Small Press Distribution bestseller.听
A star of HBO鈥檚 Def Poetry Jam, TV One鈥檚 Verses and Flow and Spike Lee鈥檚 number one box office movie Inside Man with Denzel Washington, G贸mez鈥檚 honors include the Sandy Crimmins National Prize for Poetry, Atlanta Review International Poetry Prize, Foreword INDIES Gold Medal and the International Book Award. He has also partnered with John Legend on Senior Orientation, a program to counteract bullying and champion inclusive masculinity among high school students.听
Latinx Heritage Month is observed annually from September 15 through October 15, and it celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens who have ties to Spain, Mexico, the Carribean, and Central and South America.听听
