November 18, 2024
Dr. Del Doughty, Dean of the 91社区 College of Liberal Arts, has been named to the board of directors for Indiana Humanities, a statewide nonprofit organization.听
Based out of Indianapolis, Indiana Humanities infuses the humanities into the daily lives of those across the state by providing grants, convening discussions, uplifting humanities scholars, spotlighting humanities organizations and activities, and creating programs that help Hoosiers think, read, and talk.听
鈥淚ndiana Humanities has earned a reputation for enriching the lives of Hoosiers through its programs and its grant-making.听听If you attend an Indiana Humanities event, you can count on it to be genuinely engaging and probably a lot of fun. 听I鈥檓 excited to be part of this organization and to be one of its faces in southwest Indiana,鈥 said Doughty.听
Indiana Humanities is a nonpartisan, independent nonprofit governed by a volunteer board of Indiana educators and business and community leaders. Six of the members are nominated by the board of directors and appointed by the governor of Indiana, while the others are selected from nominations solicited annually from the public.听
One of five new members recently selected to the Indiana Humanities board, Doughty is also a poet and an English professor by training. 听Prior to joining 91社区, he served as Dean and Professor of English at Texas A&M 鈥 Texarkana and, before that, taught at Huntington University in the northern part of the state. 听His 2004 chapbook, Flow, received a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission, and Doughty later served on the Commission as a reviewer.听
