Commencement speakers are selected among people who have made exceptional contributions to their field, the community, or society and serve as inspiring examples to graduates and the university community.

Since 2012, when 91ÉçÇø started hosting multiple ceremonies, spring commencement speakers are selected among distinguished alumni and fall commencement speakers are faculty members who are recipients of the Distinguished Professor Award and the H. Lee Cooper Core Curriculum Teaching Award.
